Crisis Management Measures at Hino City Schools in Response to the Violent Incident at Tachikawa Municipal Elementary School

A violent incident occurred at a school where children’s safety should be protected. We were shocked to hear in the media that the perpetrator was an acquaintance of the parents.

In response to yesterday’s incident at Tachikawa City Elementary School, we had a dialogue with the Board of Education regarding crisis management manuals and safety education programs.

He explained that crisis management manuals are formulated according to the situation of each school, and that he notified the school immediately after the incident to thoroughly check them again, and that safety education in general is based on the one formulated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education, and that they are working on evacuation drills and other measures to protect lives.

Although we have heard the details of the story and the measures taken, we are not convinced.
We requested that they consider introducing card keys to strengthen security in the future.

There have been many incidents and accidents in which children have become victims, such as the Ikeda Elementary School child murder case in 2001 and the Noborito street crime in Kawasaki City in 2019, which is still fresh in our memories.

Regular training, talking to them, and the eyes of the community are deterrents to prevent crimes.

I would like to ask everyone to continue to watch over the safety and security of our children.
