Deaflympics Caravan Visits Hino City

The Deaflympics Caravan came to Hino City on November 6th!!

I’m sooooo happy 🩷

After beginning sign language classes, I was able to undertake various initiatives as a city council member, guided by the sentiments of those who use sign language as their language and those who work alongside them.

First, from the perspective of ensuring reasonable accommodations for information accessibility under the Act on Promotion of Accessibility of Information for Persons with Disabilities, I requested subtitles for council broadcasts.

Mayor Takeshi Koga (then chairperson) and current chairperson Masato Okuzumi (then faction leader), who understood my feelings and the legal situation, took immediate action. They raised it as a request from the Liberal Democratic Party, and it began at the June council meeting the following year.

Furthermore, regarding the Deaflympics momentum, the lighting of the blue lights was also realized with the cooperation of many people, even if it did not fully meet expectations.

Through my four-year term as a city council member, not as an official but as Ayumi Ito, I was supported and learned from those who use sign language as their language, broadening my horizons.

Moving forward, with gratitude in my heart and using all the sincerity I possess,

I will continue working alongside everyone toward establishing a sign language ordinance, advancing our steps toward the future.
